Hyssop Cut and Sifted
Hyssop is one of the most ancient of ritual herbs. It has been used for cleansing and consecration. It is native to Southern Europe. Hyssop is mentioned several times in the Bible. The best-known of these references is David’s prayer in Psalm 51:7: “Cleanse me with Hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” In the Middle Ages, Hyssop was recognized as a peerless strewing herb. The presence of Hyssop was thought to repel plague and bring purity to the home.
